All classes are held at the Del Mar & the Lagoon Courts
Rain make-ups will be provided. However, personal missed days are not rescheduled.

William Higgins -Tennis Director

William Higgins is the tennis director of Belvedere-Tiburon Recreation. He has been teaching tennis to all ages, as well as training tennis pros how to teach for over 15 years. William is originally from Austin, Texas where he was a top-ranked Open level player in the state. He played on the ATP tour after graduating from the University of Texas with an English degree. After moving to California in 2000, he was awarded the "Rookie Teaching Pro of the Year" by the Northern California United States Professional Tennis Association. In 2002, he coached Billie Jean King's World Team Tennis Junior National Team to a National Championship in San Diego. For last the six years he has been teaching in Marin predominantly at the Belvedere Tennis Club. Cardio Tennis

As requested, Wednesday and Friday Cardio classes now 15 minutes longer.

For Men & Women  level 2.5 & above

Fast paced workout hitting tons of tennis balls.  Pro fed forehand, backhand, volley and overhead drills designed to get your heart pumping and give you a great workout. Players are not hitting with other players, so all levels 2.5 and above can join this workout.

Stroke of the Week

No class 11/11 & 11/12. See times and dates in the table below.

Have you always wanted to know why a certain stroke just won't work.?  Do you want to modernize your game and learn how the pro make it look so easy?  Do you want to develop topspin or slice?  If you answered yes, this is the course for you!  Every week we provide instruction on the fundamentals of a different stroke.  Meet new players and make friends.

Order of Strokes:

1st Thursday of the month is Forehand                         2nd Thursday of the month is Backhand

3rd Thursday of the month is Volley                             4th Thursday of the month is Serve

4 Pay Options

Pay for the Session:  $156 for 6 week session and $130 for the 5 week session

Students may only attend the class day they signed up for.  No make-ups for missed classes.

6 Class Flex Pass: $180      1910.301

Come to up to 6 classes. Pass valid for 12 weeks from date of purchase. Classes listed may be cancelled if less than 3 enrollees. Class space is limited. You must reserve your spot at least 24 hours in advance by calling 963-2549. Once your spot is reserved, a 24 hour cancellation notice is required to avoid being charged for that class.

The 2 Week Unlimited Card:  $68   

Attend as many classes as you want during a 2 week period.  Card expires 2 weeks from date of purchase.  This card can be purchased one time only.  No repeat purchases.

Beginner & Rusty Intermediate Class

Learn the basics of all strokes and how to play, or just knock off the rust from your game with a back to basics course.  Player will learn forehands, backhands, volleys, overheads, serves, basic positioning for singles and double play, and scoring.  Class focus is on learning the basics in a social, minimally competitive environment.

Going to miss a class? Don't worry! All registrants of the Beginner class are entitles to one free Cardio Tennis or Stroke of the Week class.

Advanced Adult Match Play

Men 4.0 to Open
Women 4.5 to Open

Each week mix around and play doubles and singles. Meet new players and play. One of our pros plays in every week! Players do not have to be available every week to play.

Rain Policy

Rain-outs are refunded at the end of the session. Call William at 963-2549 to make sure the class is cancelled due to rain. Never assume it is, because sometimes it will rain and then the courts will dry quickly.

Joe Kells

Joe Kells has been teaching tennis for 30 years. Joe was the Division 5.5 Player of the Year in N. Cal. in 1986, the Marin Cup Open Singles winner in 1994 and was ranked #2 in point standing in N. Cal's Tennis Associations 40 & over division in 1999.

Annual Court Keys

April 1 – March 31
The Belvedere-Tiburon Recreation Department operates and maintains six public tennis courts: Del Mar, Lagoon Road and Point Tiburon (2 courts at each location).

KEY PURCHASE
The tennis year runs April 1–March 31. Tennis keys cost $150 for the full year, and the price is discounted gradually from July 1st onward. Courts are cleaned bi-weekly and are carefully maintained. Tennis keys are required for entrance to the courts and can be purchased through the Recreation Department. One must be a resident of either Tiburon or Belvedere or a member of the Chamber of Commerce to purchase a key. Only one key will be sold to each resident household. Keys are non-duplicable. Key holders are entitled to reserve weekend court time for the Point Tiburon courts and receive the Recreation Department’s newsletter and notices.

TEACHING COURTS AT DEL MAR
At the Del Mar and Lagoon Courts, Recreation instructors offer group and private tennis lessons.
Court #1 is used to teach private and group lessons.
Court #2 is used for recreation sponsored group lessons only, following the lesson schedule.
Instructors have priority use of the courts during instruction time. The courts are available to key holders when not in use. The courts at Point Tiburon are available at all times with both courts at Point Tiburon designated as reserved courts on weekends.

WEEKEND RESERVATIONS
A key holder may reserve the Point Tiburon courts for one-hour per weekend. On three day holiday weekends courts may be reserved in one-hour blocks on two of the three days. Hours for reservations are:

Saturday or Sunday (and Monday if a holiday)
Upper Court: 8:00 am-6:00 pm
Lower Court: 8:00 am-6:00 pm

Reservations are made by calling the Recreation Office at 435-4355 beginning Wednesday mornings at 9:00 am through noon on Fridays prior to each weekend.

COURT MAINTENANCE
The courts are cleaned every other week. Brooms and roll dries are available at each location. While we do inspect the courts regularly we ask that you help us by promptly reporting any maintenance problems or vandalism by notifying the Recreation Office at 435-4355.

Leagues

Marin Women's Tennis League
Belvedere-Tiburon Recreation sponsors the Lobsters, a A-3 team playing in the Marin County Tennis League. The team practices weekly and plays 10 matches against other Marin A-3 teams during the season, which runs from September through April.
