Wheel Escape Bike Club Classes are back!!

No classes on school holidays!

To ensure your child’s safety please review the following:

Getting to after-school classes
Children are responsible for reporting to the appropriate room or sports area at Bel Aire School immediately after school, where instructors will meet the children. Parents must assess whether their child can assume this level of responsibility. If your child is going to be absent from a recreation specialty class contact the recreation offi ce at 435-4355.

Release of Students at the End of Class and Late Fees
Children must be picked up promptly at the class location. In order for students to be released to meet parents elsewhere on campus, walk home, or remain on campus, you must provide written permission to the recreation staff. A late fee of $5.00 per each 10 minutes of lateness will be assessed for late pick-ups. A bill will be issued and payment is to be made to Belvedere-Tiburon Recreation. If the late pick-up problem persists, your child’s enrollment may be cancelled.

Coordination with Childcare Facility
You will need to make arrangements with the Belvedere-Tiburon Childcare Center to have your child released from their care to attend our specialty classes. Due to staffing limitations, we are not able to pick-up or drop-off children at the BTCCC.

Behavior standards
Our rules are simple and refl ect our concern for the safety and welfare of the children both as individuals and as part of the group. Uncooperative and disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. We reserve the right to remove a child from the recreation program if it is deemed necessary for the safety of your child or the physical and emotional well being of the other children in our care.

Absence Notification Penalty
In order for the staff to maximize instruction time, it is necessary to call Belvedere-Tiburon Recreation at 435-4355 if your child is going to be absent from a recreation class. Failure to give advance notice if your child is going to be absent will result in a $10 non-notification fee being assessed.

PROTOCOL ACADEMY’S DINING ETIQUETTE SERIES
Instructor: Angie Allison

Join The Protocol Academy’s Dining Etiquette series! It is a fun, engaging and progressive setting. Students will learn,practice and demonstrate various hands-on dining skills. The curriculum includes Place Settings; Dining at Home and Away; Proper Table Manners and Behavior; Styles of Dining; and more. Child-friendly food will be served; please apprise the instructor of any food allergies. Your children will earn a Dining Etiquette diploma from The Protocol Academy.

Angie Allison is a certified etiquette and communications essentials trainer for young children through adults. She is a member of the Society for Certified Etiquette Trainers.

PROTOCOL ACADEMY’S ETIQUETTE ESSENTIALS SERIES

Join The Protocol Academy’s Etiquette Essentials series for children! It is a relaxed, fun-filled, modern-based program. Children are encouraged to practice courtesy, thoughtfulness and graciousness in everyday life situations. Fundamentals are practiced through dynamic role-play, casual group discussions, games and activities. The course features topics such as Meet and Greet Essentials; Connecting with People; Family Politeness; Conversation and Communication; and Situational Conduct. A diploma in Etiquette Essentials will be earned by your children.

DODGEBALL

One of our most popular classes, dodgeball is now safe and more enjoyable with rubber foam balls and safety conscious rules. Dodgeball promotes social enjoyment and teamwork. We’ll learn about strategy and cooperation, which are more valuable factors in dodgeball than athletic skill and individual competitiveness. Different variations of dodgeball will be taught each week such as classic, gaga, Jedi, trader, army and capture the crystal. Anyone can play! All you need to bring is enthusiasm and a positive attitude. Equipment will be provided for all participants.

INTERMEDIATE CHESS

Instructor: Jeff and Lanette Gordon

Learn intermediate and advanced strategies while practicing the fundamentals. Students will learn opening, middle and end game techniques while solving puzzles and participating in in-class games and tournaments. The class may be divided into novice and advanced groups. No knowledge of chess is required.

STREET HOCKEY CLINIC

Street Hockey Clinic is designed for the beginning to intermediate participants. In the first half of the class, we will learn the fundamental techniques, rules, and strategies of one of the fastest growing sports in the world today. The second half of the class will be spent participating in a practice scrimmage to incorporate skills learned. The clinic will emphasize sportsmanship, teamwork, and fair play. Equipment will be provided for all participants.

NEW! ACADEMY OF FUTURE SPACE EXPLORERS
Instructor: Mad Science

Mad Science and NASA have teamed up to bring you the excitement and wonder of space in the NASA Academy of Future Space Explorers After-School Program! The Academy of Future Space Explorers takes children on a voyage of discovery through the solar system and out into the stars! Students will investigate the life cycles of stars and planets, create galaxies out of bubbles and take home their own shimmering
star constellation viewers. Make a model comet and learn about other space phenomenon we can spot in the night sky. Take a crash course on the technology of space travel and flight and explore how lasers help us navigate the great open outer space. Learn about rocket flight and how NASA gets people from our little planet all the way into outer space. Take home a model rocket that your child builds in class to
launch at home!

ICKY, STICKY ART

FLAG FOOTBALL CLINIC

Designed for beginning to advanced participants. Students will learn the fundamental skills and strategies of passing, catching, kicking, punting, offense, defense, and the rules and history of football in a fun environment. The first half of class will focus on teaching a new concept and the second half will be spent demonstrating that concept in a game setting. Equipment will be provided for all participants. Don’t miss out on this opportunity, as this class fills up quickly.

Due to the unavailability of the facilities at Bel Aire School in the spring, our instructor will meet students at the gate to the lower field on campus directly after school and will then walk them across the street from campus to the lot located on Karen Way to field practice. Parents may pick up their children at 4:00 by parking on Karen Way directly across the street from the entrance to the school.

Sewing is a skill that will last a lifetime. This class is a wonderful opportunity to learn basic sewing skills, make cool projects as well as boost your child’s creativity. We will start a new project each week. Projects may include pillowcases, bags/ totes, iPod/iPhone cases, aprons and more. Children will learn to use a sewing machine. Wheel Escape Bike Club

Instructor: Frances Barbour

BEGINNER/INTERMEDIATE

Wheel Escape Bike Club’s mission is to instill a love of bicycling and respect for the rules of the road. As a nationally certified Bike Safety Instructor, Frances offers ‘hands on’ practice and expertise in safe cycling skills, and the chance to ride to fun/educational destinations. Each week the Club works on perfecting cycling skills, from balance, starting/stopping, turns, gearing, and hill climbing/descents, to basic bike maintenance, and path, trail, and road safety/etiquette. The Club travels a safe route to fun destinations like Blackie’s Pasture, Del Mar, downtown Tiburon, and more!

Every Club Member will need to purchase the bright orange Wheel Escape t-shirt, which is the Club uniform on every ride. T-shirts are available from the instructor for an additional $15. Members are encouraged to bring snacks and water for before/during the rides. First time and returning students are welcome!

EXTENDED/ADVANCED

Returning Club Members that have demonstrated a consistent proficiency in maintaining lane positioning, scanning, signaling, and endurance are invited to join the Advanced Club. Weekly rides will strive to be somewhat longer and will expect to navigate with and negotiate higher traffic volumes. Members will work towards a higher command of street skills and bike skills, and will always choose interesting routes and destinations.

Every Club Member will need to wear the bright orange Wheel Escape t-shirt, which is the Club uniform on every ride. T-shirts are available from the instructor for an additional $15. Wheel Escape Cycling Jerseys, vests & jackets also are available for purchase, and are an alternative to the T-shirt. Pre-requisite for this class is completion of the beginning Wheel Escape Bike Club class or a two hour private lesson
with the instructor.
